“Pork is forbidden for the German team,” translated from “Schweinefleisch ist für die deutsche Mannschaft verboten,” Junge Freiheit, June 20, 2025 (thanks to Medforth):

BRATISLAVA. “The German team simply didn’t have any pork.” That’s how the U21 European Championship in Slovakia can be summed up in advance. The DFB players will consistently abstain from pork during the tournament.

As team chef Andre Göldner explained to the Bild newspaper, the meat is generally not served “for reasons of quality, but also due to social and religious reasons.”

According to Göldner, the omission of pork schnitzel, roast pork, and similar dishes is not only a matter of nutrition, but also a conscious consideration for the composition of the young team. The high proportion of Muslims in the team will be served beef, veal, and turkey instead. Fast food, ready-made sauces like ketchup or mayonnaise, and fried foods like French fries are also taboo.

According to Göldner, the players’ daily diet consists of three to four meals, with various types of pasta playing a central role. Pasta consumption is five to seven kilograms per day. “The boys enjoy it,” says the chef.

According to Göldner, no complaints have been received about the food offerings so far. Players such as Max Rosenfelder (SC Freiburg) and Caspar Jander (1. FC Nürnberg) have publicly praised the quality of the food at the DFB headquarters. The chef previously worked for the women’s national team and noticed differences in eating habits. Women generally eat smaller portions and eat lighter meals.

Islam Week at Kiel University: Günther calls for clarification

The Islam Week at Kiel University continues to make headlines. Now Minister President Daniel Günther is also intervening and demanding clarification.

Schleswig-Holstein's Minister-President Daniel Günther (CDU) has now also joined the discussion about alleged Islamist, anti-Semitic, and misogynistic incidents during the Islam Week at Kiel University. He demanded that the events described in media reports are "unbearable and must be clarified as quickly as possible."

"Gender segregation, anti-Semitic messages, and the dissemination of extremist ideologies have no place at our universities, and they fundamentally contradict the values of our democratic constitutional state," the head of government emphasized.

Reports of gender segregation and anti-Semitic stickers

The Islamic University Group Kiel (IHG) organized a week of action from May 5 to 9. According to the Kieler Nachrichten, complaints arose within the university about gender-segregated seating. Eyewitnesses reported that men and women were asked to use different entrances and sit separately. Women were told to sit at the back, men at the front. Visitors also noticed anti-Semitic stickers on laptops. A Salafist was also reportedly a speaker.

The State Parliament’s Education Committee plans to address the issue on July 10.

Günther: Marginalizing women is unacceptable

The university is a place of freedom of expression, academic freedom, and equal rights, Günther said. "Anyone who uses this freedom to spread hatred and exclusion is abusing it." It is also unacceptable when women are systematically marginalized and people are discriminated against because of their gender or beliefs. "This is especially true when, under the guise of religious events, rules are preached that are incompatible with our constitution."

He and Science Minister Dorit Stenke (CDU) expect a comprehensive investigation from those responsible – "and clear consequences if the events described have occurred as they did," Günther said. The universities in Schleswig-Holstein are places of cosmopolitanism, "and they will remain so."
