The beheading of a teenager in Ethiopia's Oromia region sparked protests in November 2024. It was the latest in a series of civilian killings in the area. Amid the public outrage, a TikTok account shared a video of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, claiming that it shows him addressing the country about the recent terror in Oromia. However, this is false: the clip dates back to June 2020 and features Abiy talking about the murder of pop star Hachalu Hundessa at the time. AFP Fact Check found that the clip circulating online was edited to remove the mention of Hachalu’s name and recut to change the original context.
